I know, it’s not totally an MCZ or sister group related, but I just to create a fun thread to this quite forum, and express some of my favorites too.

So just for fun, name your favorite Japanese artist/band/group/singer from ANY genre, and why.

I'll start this whole thing off (as a 20+ year old Straight Western male) ranking my five:

    5) BAND-MAID = Just started listening/following to them a couple of weeks ago out of strong curiosity, and I must say there are excellent musicians with great music (though it takes time to differentiate their discography cause they almost sound the same).

    4) Daichi Miura = Despite the fact that this guy probably has a dominant female fan base (making me the minority), this guy is one heck of a talent (in singing AND dancing), and his songs makes you wanna dance along. Plus, he is one of the more easier Japanese music act to get into since it is similar to some of the R&B artists from America (like Usher, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, and of course MJ).

    3) One Ok Rock = Another group that probably has more female fans than male (though probably more males in that fan base than Daichi's fan base), but is the EASIEST to get into for someone from the West. Despite this, these guys have some fantastic songs in their discography, whether it was their old school Jrock vibe from the early 2010s, or their current stuff where old fans act like they went "pop", which I find BS since there is clearly instrumentation in songs like We Are, Taking Off, Cry Out, The Way Back, I am King, etc. (maybe being an American helps me accept these songs even more). To add on to that controversy, I actually like that there these type of songs from them, since it adds more variety to their song, making it easier to figure out which song is which (unlike Band-MAID, where most of their stuff have similar instrumentation, to the point where I still can't differentiate all of the songs I have listened from them so far).

    2) BABYMETAL - The group that literally open Pandora's box of the Japanese music world, and changed my life musically. I don't know whether to say thank you or f\*ck you to them for that! But anyway, I was obsessed this group, with their (limited) music being addicting as all hell, despite the shocking visuals and super young age (specifically in Doki Doki Morning). Though thankfully, I stopped being obsessed with them by mid 2016 (and that there are at least numerous of Western adults who has open themselves to liking BABYMETAL including WWE superstar Baron Corbin and Xavier Woods, though I'm certain its only because of the metal aspect, not the idol aspect). But why I did I top being obsessed with BABYMETAL you may asked? Because sadly, I ended up being obsessed with a female group that...well...

1)...You all know who it is, so I’m not even gonna say their name. I'm just gonna describe them in the 3 words you have heard: BIGGEST GUILTY PLEASURE!!! ([

That's my list, folks. Now it's your turn: What is Your Top 5 Favorite Japanese Music Act and why?

I'm not hugely into the Japanese music scene, but out of the acts I'm familiar with: Momoclo, Nana Kitade, Inoue Yousui, Acid Black Cherry, Hirota Aika

    5. Little Glee Monster
Hoping that they'll stay together for a loooooong time. Serena for President! :-)

    4. babyraids JAPAN
Yeah I know they just disbanded but they will stay in my heart forever :x

    3. Sheena Ringo
Amazing singer, amazing songwriter, amazing persona

    2. Team Shachi
I'm first and foremost Stardust, and they're my #1 group there now, so...

    1. Aya Matsuura
I'm still the biggest Ayaya fan outside of Japan...

    5. CHAI

Funny female post punk/alternative rock group with twin sisters headed. They brought European freshness to the standard J-Rock sound. Japanese portal ototoy called them the best group of Japan last year

    4. Seiko Oomori

I have a lot of respect to Sheena Ringo too, but my main star of the Japanese alternative female scene is Seiko-chan. Many thanks to her for everything, (including her great love for idols), for writing great songs for idol groups also

    3. Ling Tosite Sigure

Famous post-hardcore japanese group with quite original vocal parts and musical finds that distinguish them from the whole world post-hardcore scene

    2. There There Theres (Bellring Shoujo Heart)

A project that opened the door (no, the abyss) for me to the world of indie idols. Almost 4 years crazy about them. I was very happy to visit their oneman live this summer

    image

    1. Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku

The best idol live team for me already 5th year, skillfully combining a major concepts with indie calls in their works. Each time it seems that I am already tired of them, and each time it turns out to be a big lie LOL

I really don't have much to say about each of my picks, I just really love their music. Everything other than my top choice are very rearrangeable and there are about twenty some other groups/bands I'd love to mention that could also make up the bottom 4, but I'll try and keep to the rules of this thread... at least as much as I can. :p

    5. Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku

    4. Gacharic Spin
Good songs, great musicianship, amazing showmanship.

    3. Momoiro Clover Z

    2. MIGMA SHELTER

    1. Bellring Girls Heart / There There Theres
My overall favorite still-active musical act of any category including western music, AqbiRec groups in general just consistently put out amazing music... hence my 2nd choice.

Honorable Mention: Hauptharmonie - If they were still around, I would've put them somewhere in the list.

I'm jealous as hell ebizori. :(

I also wanted to include MiShel in my list. This is my favorite idol project of last year and the first half of this year, but their new t.A.t.U copy concept has cooled my love for them. I hope they'll soon return to their original format

    5. Maison Bool Girl
The genius melodic maker Kenta Sakurai makes, the sound of metaphor becomes eventually addictive.
Think about these songs, how many measure (rhythms). quadruple measure? triple measure?...

    4. BILLIE IDLE
Among the WACK group with BiSH as the lead, the composition team is different and it has a different appearance.
The Japanese pops of the 80's is arranged to the present. It is comfortable.

    3. BiSH
The most momentous girls group in Japan now.
The emotional melody line Kenta Matsukuma draws is called "emo-i" and attracts fans.

    2. EMPiRE
    BiSH's younger sister group.
It's still rough-cut performance, but skillfully expresses the sound of Kenta Matsukuma.

    1. YURUMERUMO! (You'll melt more!)
Anyway, it has high musicality. The genre differs in various ways depending on the song, but the identity as a group is clear.
Live is quite different from MV and fierce performance is attractive. Please watch it on the youtube by all means.

So since you chose only idol groups, your list is quite suitable for this topic

Ouside of Momoclo (in no particular order): Kobushi Factory, Morning Musume, ANGERME, Juice=Juice, Tsubaki Factory...

Really, it's just Hello! Project LOL

But nah, H!P (well, most of past/present Up-Front acts really), May J, Sekai No Owari, Okazaki Taiiku and Suzu are probably my top J-artists.
