I only have a 220GB seedbox but I'll try downloading and seeding some stuff when I get home from work.

Thank you so much for this! I found a ton of old TV appearances and episodes of Momoclo-chan on there that I'll download. As you said, some of them might be dead torrents by now, but if anyone is able to seed some old torrents, now is the time :)

Glad I could help. All the Momoiro Tsurube episodes are on there as well (and about 95% of kwkm Logirl, and all the Folk Mura vids I think...if they're not, I have them on my hard drive, and I'm happy to share them if anyone needs them). As for Momoclo-chan, the list has a lot of the web-episodes (everything from the last couple of years). And anything that's missing is available on Perfect Dark, so none of it will be lost (as far as I can tell, once something gets onto Perfect Dark, it's on there pretty much forever).

Unfortunately, some of the other, more obscure clips/TV appearances might get lost, unless Matt has them all backed up and is willing to share them at some point. Many of that stuff is already dead even on hello-online, so someone having a backup is really the only hope.

    What's Perfect Dark?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_Dark_(P2P)
It's a clever Japanese filesharing program (there's an English version too), that I think might be a decent alternative solution to our current filesharing predicament. The clever part is that it requires users to allocate a minimum of 40gb of storage...not to upload 40 gigs of content, mind you (which wouldn't be very helpful, because most users would upload junk), but to allocate 40 gigs, for Perfect Dark to store other people's uploads in. It's almost like uploading your stuff into the cloud (except it's a shared cloud everyone can access, and everyone pitches in a bit of storage space as well).

You can also "sign" your content, to make it easy to find. This is the part that would have to be tested, but I bet Perfect Dark would actually be a decent solution for sharing MCZ stuff, thanks to that signature feature, because it makes searches far more reliable than they were in similar p2p networks like emule. For instance, if an uploader on this forum signed his uploads, and posted his signature for all the users to know, we could (in theory, like I said, this would need to be tested) all easily search for all his uploads in perfect dark, and download them. If we were to also use a unique tag ("momoiroclover.net" for instance), it would probably allow downloaders to stay up to date with all current uploads just as easily as they would with torrents.

The main drawbacks are that you can't share a direct link to content (like I explained above, with signed stuff you have to search for the signature, which is a quick search, but it's still an extra step, and with unsigned stuff, you have to search for tags, or words in the title or description...that's a long, and probably less reliable search), the program itself is a bit of a resource hog on both the hard drive and the Internet connection (like I said, it forces you to store and seed 40 Gigs of other, random users' content for as long as you have it open), and the download speed is nowhere near as fast as it is with torrents. For me, the download speed for a single file maxed out at about 200K/s. With a well seeded torrent, I can download 50 times that fast.

However, there are also lots of positives:
    1. The uploads are really quick. Much quicker than with torrents, and you don't need to seed afterwards (because the system is designed to force everyone to seed...so there are no leechers you have to make up for, like there are with torrents). I uploaded my entire collection of Folk Mura in a couple of hours. And, even though I didn't sign the files (because I didn't know why that's important, at the time), most of the files I uploaded are still on there, alive and well, available for download. So it seems like a reliable way even just to store your stuff in "the cloud", for free...as long as it's stuff others will also be interested in. With more obscure content, it probably wouldn't work as well.
    2. There's no need for mods...instead, there's a ratings system, that allows users to identify fraudulent titles and content description, and upvote good content. And, again, just like with seeding, rating is mandatory. The program won't let you delete old downloads from your download list until you rate them. That's what makes it work.
    3. Much safer for users. You don't actually seed your uploads, the way you would with torrents. Other, random users seed them, without even knowing what they're seeding. So, unless you sign your uploads, they can't be traced back to you. And even if you do sign them, I don't think it's much of a problem, because I can't think of a way for anyone to connect your signature to your IP address in Perfect Dark (or on this forum, for that matter, at least not without help from the admin).

But, like I said, this would have to be tested, with some uploads. I could only test it so much, by myself...I tested whether I can find the files I uploaded myself, and it was with Folk Mura (a pretty popular show). But what we would need to test is what happens when someone on the other side of the world uploads something more obscure, that the average Japanese Perfect Dark users wouldn't be interested in. Would that upload still be easy to find with the help of a signature or unique tag, and would it survive in the cloud for a long time? If anyone wants to install Perfect Dark and do some testing, I'd be happy to upload something and post the search info. It's really easy to set up, it's all explained here: http://kasumi.moe/pd/

I forwarded the port for PD exactly the same way I did for my torrent client.
