Braces help keep teeth straight, or to straighten them while the jaw still grows. I doubt they can do anything for her now. I don't know what more invasive options are available, but it's probably just differences in lighting between the pictures.

My mom is nearly 50 and has braces. Maybe Kanako had her wisdom teeth removed and have more "room" so now they've straighten them with braces. Or they'll just removed a piece... who knows but I think it's not just the lightning, it looks too different.

Edit: Just backtracked her blog and I think this picture was to commemorate her new teeth. Up until that point they looked different.

Definitely not the lighting. It was the first thing I noticed when I saw the usream.
And yeah I'll miss her crooked tooth too. It takes a bit away from her beloved goofiness.
But I can understand that goofiness is not something a pretty woman aspires after :)
So good for her. And she does look gorgeous!

I'm guessing it's something like Invisalign, which you can remove when desired. It seems that it's the movements of the teeth against the braces that straightens them, so it should still work for an adult.
